For the better efficiency and durability of the artificial prosthesis, you need to have a prior consultation with a prosthodontist regarding the selection of type of prosthesis that will better aid you in proper function of the prosthesis.

What are the types of dentures available?

Dentures are artificially made prosthesis designed to replace the missing tooth in the oral cavity. It may replace all or only some of the teeth. The dentures that replace all the teeth are known as complete dentures and they rest on the gums. Partial dentures replace some of the teeth that were missing but not all of the teeth. Partial dentures may be removable or it can be fixed. They gain support from the adjacent teeth. A partial denture is important to prevent the remaining natural teeth from shifting, which will occur if the spaces are not filled in. Dentures aids in the improvement of chewing, speech and as well as provide facial support which will ultimately improve your aesthetics and smile. Dental implants can also be used to restore and stabilize the dentures.

Can i chew my food effectively with dentures in mouth?

Firstly, with the new dentures in mouth, patient may find it difficult to get accustomed to the artificial prosthesis. They may find a little discomfort while chewing food or while speaking. But with proper use of the prosthesis overtime, patients learns how to use dentures efficiently. After that patients finds it easier to eat normally. Initially, using a small amount of denture adhesive may help stabilize the dentures in appropriate positioning.

How to clean dentures?

Dentures do need gentle, daily care just like your natural tooth. Scrub them with a soft toothbrush using Denture cleansing material and water. Toothpaste might have abrasives that can cause wearing of the artificial teeth. Various denture cleansers are available that can be used effectively to clean dentures. After you have scrubbed them clean. If the dentures are not in use, it should be kept in a box, soaked with water inorder to avoid denture breakages.

When should the dentures be removed?

Dentures should be removed after every meal and they should be cleansed properly.dentures should be removed during night time to allow gum tissue to rest and to promote proper health of oral tissues. Avoid sleeping with dentures in mouth.

Do my dentures need replacement?

The long term usage of dentures might result in wear or tear and they might to be relined, rebased, or remade. The average lifespan of a denture is about 5 years. It may last longer if you maintain the dentures properly. Dentures may also need to be replaced if they become loose and when the teeth show signs of significant wear. Dentures become loose because a mouth naturally changes with age. Bone and gum ridges can recede or shrink, causing jaws to align differently. Shrinking ridges can cause dentures to fit less securely. Loose dentures can cause health problems, including sores and infections. A loose denture can also make chewing more difficult. It’s important to replace worn or poorly-fitting dentures before they cause any problems.

Can i have dentures immediately after extraction of tooth?

Yes it is totally possible. Those type of dentures are called immediate dentures. They are inserted immediately after the extraction of the corresponding natural tooth. Mostly these type of dentures are preferred in aesthetic zones. One of the main advantage of immediate denture is that the patient does not have to be without teeth during the healing period.

What is an over-denture??

An overdenture is a removable denture that fits over a small number of remaining natural teeth (or) implants. Overdentures increases the stability and retention of the dentures. The natural teeth with sound structure and healthy periodontium is preserved and they must be prepared for receiving dentures. This type of prosthesis is referred to as tooth supported over dentures. When it is not possible to save the tooth to support the dentures, implants are inserted into the jaw and over the implants conventional dentures can be attached which is known as implant supported dentures.

All on 4 implants:

All on four implants are usually preferred in a completely edentulous patients. Two implants are inserted into either jaw (or) over which dentures can be attached. They provide a better retention and stability compared to conventional dentures. All on four implants are indeed a better treatment option for patients who are desiring a long term treatment and permanent solution. These dental implants redefine and restore oral health and aesthetics to the maximum as possible. At Zaara we have the most experienced and dedicated prosthodontist to do the best implant at madurai.
